Learning and Curriculum

‘Children learn what they live...’

In an ever-changing and fast paced world, the key to learning at Enchanted Forest Nursery is for our staff to ensure that the individual development needs of each child are met. Our Erskine nursery is a a Partner Nursery with Renfrewshire Council and thus follow their local guidelines for curricular planning. To support learning, we use National Guidelines as follows:

Babies/Toddlers
Babies/Toddlers are offered experiences that help them begin to learn positively and foster a sense of awareness of the world around them. Learning for our babies and toddlers focuses on play opportunities. Heuristic play opportunities are provided to allow for active exploration and discovery. Our staff team closely follow Scottish Executive guidance in the ‘Birth to Three, Supporting our Youngest Children’ document. A key to the success of our planning is the use of evaluations and next steps in learning for each child. Our staff are reflective practitioners.

3-5 Year Olds
Our 3 to 5 years olds follow a curriculum based on planned, child-led activities and experiences that will enrich and promote individual development. Learning through play, remains a key focus. Our staff team implement the Curriculum for Excellence which focuses on enabling all children to become:

  • Successful Learners

  • Confident Individuals

  • Responsible Citizens

  • Effective Contributors

Profiles
Staff complete monthly profiles for all children in our care.  Profiles contain photographic evidence, art work and written evidence.  Our older children also help to select items for inclusion in their profiles.  Profiles are a great tool to demonstrate how well our staff know each child, as well as tracking progress, development and next steps.  When children head of to school, profiles become a lovely memento of your child's early years...........
