Our Enchanted Forest Nursery, Erskine’s Carla Fulton has gone from Modern Apprentice to manager, what a journey!
The former Park Mains pupil joined the nursery in 2009 and is now helping to train Modern Apprentices. The nursery has 63 places for young children and 14 employees.
“I love my job and I loved being an apprentice. It is such a rewarding job and the best part of it is watching the children and seeing them develop,” explained Carla.
She believes her career progress to nursery manager has been helped by the nursery’s learning ethos and very supportive colleagues.
“Since the very start of my apprenticeship it has been great to work here because it is a very motivating place and people want to help each other. I like to think that because I have been through that journey myself that I can understand the support and motivation our current Modern Apprentices are likely to need,” added the 24-year-old.
Carla became a team leader, then depute manager before moving into to her latest role last June.
“I am very proud to have been a Modern Apprentice and I think our apprentices can see at first hand that it is a career with opportunities. I try to encourage them to be ambitious and realise their own personal goals just as I have,” she explained.
Sharon Taylor, Business Development Manager of Carla’s training provider said: “The Childcare Management Company (CMC) has worked directly with Carla for over two years now – as depute and now manager – in recruitment and provision of Modern Apprentices. Having come through the ranks as a Modern Apprentice to become manager, Carla knows exactly the high level of support and mentoring young Modern Apprentices need to succeed and provides them with that and much more.”
She added: “We pre-qualify all employers that we work with to ensure our Modern Apprentices will receive top quality vocational training to become highly competent, qualified childcare practitioners, and we know Carla and her team will continue to produce some of the finest young early years educators in the industry.”
Carla’s story was showcased in the Scottish Modern Apprentice week as a success story for those wishing to pursue apprenticeships. Carla’s apprenticeship was fully funded by Skills Development Scotland. For more information on apprenticeships: https://www.skillsdevelopmentscotland.co.uk/
